First Juice

“Sip It Up”

“Don’t squeeze it“ is usually what a parent says to their child as they hand him/her a juice pouch or juice box, so that the child doesn’t spill the juice in the car. David Glasser of First Juice saw that as an opportunity; an opportunity to create a more convenient and durable package for parents.

The package for First Juice takes the silicone valve technology for dispensing closures to a new level and a new age group. Most silicone valve closures used on beverages are for adult use – they provide a heavy product flow due to a very flexible valve and flexible bottle. First Juice needed the very opposite, in an economical, disposable package, for a line of low-sugar juices for toddlers.

Economics was one of the key factors for this package. Other companies had tried to create disposable packages with sippy caps, but the costs were too prohibitive. The innovative assembly of the closures installs the liner, valve and overcap in a fully automated process.

TricorBraun Design developed a custom spill resistant closure with overcap, using the traditional baby bottle as a metaphor. We also worked with an ergonomic specialist to make sure the nozzle of the closure is comfortable for the child’s mouth and does not promote bad gum development. To help customize the package further we embossed the “First Juice” logo around the skirt of the closure. The end-result is a premium looking custom sippy cap closure that is not only ergonomically correct and passes child safety laws for choking, but also helps distinguish First Juice from its competitors.

The overall bottle package with the bright graphics and organic designation draws the consumers to the product, but the no-spill sippy cap keeps them coming back.
